Janet Adams | Administrative Assistant
Janet was born and raised in the Kansas City area and moved to Platte County in 1973. She and her husband have two grown children and four grandchildren, all of whom live in the area.
Janet has worked in a variety of fields, from federal law enforcement and pharmaceuticals, to medical case management and commercial real estate, all in a clerical capacity. She “retired” from Aventis Pharmaceuticals (formerly Marion Laboratories) when the company moved to New Jersey, and then worked at a commercial real estate firm on the Plaza in Kansas City. Janet retired from there late 2011 but soon found herself at loose ends and wanted to return to work on a part-time basis. Janet says she “was very fortunate” to be offered the position of part-time Administrative Assistant at Weston Christian Church in late February/March 2013.
Janet enjoys spending time with her family, doing crafts, sewing, reading, gardening, and traveling.
Jeff Elsea | Music Director
Marge Hull was the choir director from 1947-1974. Marge said she wanted to take a couple of months off and asked Jeff to fill in. Jeff has been the MD since 1974. With a degree in Music Education from the University of Central Missouri (was Central Missouri State College when he graduated), Jeff was the band director at West Platte HS from 1969-1973. Jeff said he has been truly blessed to have worked with the finest singers and accompanists a choir director could imagine – a director’s utopia. Jeff also plays the upright bass in the WCC Folk Band (pictured above).
Melissa Hickman | Board President, Interim Director of Pastoral Care and Outreach
Melissa Hickman currently serves Weston Christian Church in two capacities. She assumed her duties as Board President in January of 2018 and currently serves as the interim director of Pastoral Care and Outreach.
Melissa has been actively involved in the Weston Community. She was founder and President of the Weston Fine Arts Organization. President of the Optimist club and was a member of Weston Planning and Zoning Committee. She was the Instrumental Music Teacher for West Platte School District for ten years. It was during that time she first became involved with Weston Christian Church as an accompanist.
Melissa spent many years as a church musician serving congregations throughout the metropolitan area. She prayerfully made the decision to look for a local congregation where she could be a member and serve as a lay person. She felt God calling her back to Weston Christian and joined this congregation in 2014.
